Pedang Sword, Indonesia, Rare Form - 10537

This form of sword from Sumatra, Indonesia is known as Pedang I. It has a clear influence from the Indian subcontinent and usually employs a foreign blade, as most probably the case here: A saber blade, probably a European trade blade, 30 inches long . Steel basket hilt with down pointing langets and a pommel spike. All very nicely engraved. Total length 35 inches. Good condition. Blackened areas and patches of pitted spots. No scabbard. For similar swords see A.G. Van Zonneveld, Traditional Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago,, Page 101.
