Wootz karud Dagger from Bukhara, Uzbekistan - 6057

This superb dagger is a rare style of something between a Karud , the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz, and a Khybar Knife. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Persia and several Central Asian countries. The blade is a masterpiece of forged wootz, 12 inches long, heavy, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are Rhino horn with a pronounced fibrous structure as is clearly seen in the photos. The grip strap and bolsters are steel. The blade shape, the steel bolsters and the very typical horn grips indicate a most probable Bukhara origin. Very good condition. Minor forging flaw lines on the spine and minor chips to the grip horn. This dagger comes with a newly made scabbard (not shown). A very good investment in a rare item for the advanced collector of Asian blades. |
