Good Laz Bichaq Yataghan Sword from the Black Sea - 10461

The origin of this unusual and rare sword was in a fierce debates between collectors and researchers of blade weapons. It was attributed to the Caucasus, Kurdistan, North Africa, Turkey, Malaya as well as other origins. However, most probably it is coming from North / East Turkey and found in Caucasian areas as well. It is best known as Black Sea Yataghan or Laz Bichaq. It is characterized by the deeply re-curving blade and bifurcated pommel. This one has a 18 inches blade decorated with brass inlay on the spine. The pommel spikes are horn. Wood scabbard covered with a (later) iron sheet and part of the original leather binding. Total length 26 inches. Good condition. Small nick on the blade. The grip leather binding is a later replacement, A very rare sword. |
