Turkish Yatagan with Silver Handle - 6033
A nice example of a classical “YATAGAN”. The Yatagan derives its shape from very old blades. Its peculiar shaped blade has a down curving blade with reinforced spine, and it is found in many weapons in the eastern world from the West Balkan countries to the far Indian sub-continent. Its eared pommel shape is known from very old days and similar pommels were found in swords from Luristan 3000 years ago. This specific example is of Turkish origin, has a 26 1/2 inches long blade finely inscribed in Arabic letters and deeply strike with a maker sign. The grips with the side ears are silver decorated with Niello design. No scabbard. Total length 31 inches. Good condition. Few blackened spots. A very nice example at a very reasonable price. |
