Fine Jile Dagger Horn of Africa - 10238
We offer here for sale this fine silver mounted Jile Dagger, used by the Danakil people residing in the Horn of Africa. This is a fine specimen early to mid 20 C. and the quality and decoration suggest it was owned by a high ranking person of the Danakil people with the rich silver decoration demonstrates his wealth and status. 13 inches long curved and finely fullered blade, widest at its center. Hilt made of wood bound with silver wire and the pommel covered with silver cap decorated with fine filigree work. Hide scabbard with finely pierced silver locket and filigree chape with globular silver tip. This dagger come with part of its original leather belt and steel buckle. This dagger probably belonged to a high ranking person Total length 22 inches. Very good condition. |
