This fine heavy knife is a version of a Dah, probably Burma, early to mid 19 C. The heavy down curving blade is 8 1/2 inches long 8 mm thick with a 5 inches false edge on the spine. The handle is carved from a massive single piece elephant ivory with a silver collar. The fantastically carving of the handle shows mythological creatures in great details. Wood scabbard black lacquered with brass mounts. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Very good age patina on the ivory with typical hair thin age cracks. Minor dents on the fittings of the scabbard. Fine and impressive item.
