Very Good Silver Mounted Khukuri Knife - 6003


The KHUKURI is the traditional weapon of the Gurkha people from NEPAL. It is an every day tool used for hunting, agriculture, defense and fighting, and every man in Nepal is proud to carry one for use and as a symbol of status. It derives its shape from the “KOPIS” the ancient Greek sword. This specific example is from the turn of the 20th C. It is highly decorated and certainly belonged to a high ranking person. It has a blade of 9 inches long, very well forged, heavy and down curving. The hilt is horn with silver bolster and silver pommel decorated with an high relief design. The scabbard is wood covered with red velvet and mounted with very nice engraved silver chape, with a compartment for the two by-knives complete with the same silver pommel on each. Very good condition. All parts are original, no replacements or additions. Very attractive price.
