Fine Parang Nabur Sword from Kalimantan (Borneo) - 9809

Up for sale is this classical fine example of the Parang Nabur sword from Kalimantan (Borneo). This saber shaped sword with the D guard is strongly influenced from the naval cutlasses carried by the Dutch sailors, and shows a perfect blend of European with Islamic styles. Up-curving blade 20 1/2 inches long with an 8 inches raised back edge, widening to its maximum width near the tip. The handle is horn with checkered grip and the D guard and collar are white metal. Original wood scabbard with silver locket and nicely chased chape and silver/brass bands. Total length 27 inches. Very good condition. Very good untouched patina on the blade. Few of the silver / brass bands on the scabbard are loose. A classical fine example, late 19 C.
