Fine Indo-Arab Jambiya / Khanjar Dagger - 9797

This dagger is Indian, early to mid 19 C. The classification as Indo-Arab is derived from the general shape and size which are much influenced by similar Arab daggers. The curved wide blade with a pronounced central rib is forged from very fine wootz (Damascus, watered) steel, of dark color and high contrast pattern, possibly Persian made and traded for the Indian market. The steel handle is decorated with gold koftgari work. Original wood scabbard covered with green and red velvet and mounted with a pierced steel chape also decorated with gold koftgari work, in the style of the handle decoration. Blade length 8 inches. Total length 14 inches. Very good condition. Losses to the gold decoration on the handle. |
