This Kilij sword is classical Turkish. The long slender blade and the shallow curvature indicate an earlier form, probably 18 C. (In contrast to the shorter, wider and deeply curved later Kilijes). Blade length 32 inches, nicely fullered with a 10 inches raised back edge (Yelmen). Horn grips with brass cross guard and brass grip strap. A later added brass collar is soft soldered to the cross guard to reinforce it in position. Total length 37 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Lightly patinated blade with minor dents and edge nicks. This sword comes with a newly made brass mounted scabbard (Not shown).
