Very Fine and Rare Kattara Sword / Saber from Oman - 9672

This very fine sword / saber from Oman is a very rare variant of the Kattara classical sword from the same place, see example: Iaroslav Lebedynsky Les Armes Orientales Page 78. The 30 inches fullered blade is most probably a European trade blade, mid 19C. or so. The handle is a fine embroidery of leather and silver strips in a geometrical pattern. The heavy pommel square block is steel covered with silver sheet. The scabbard is covered with beautifully tooled leather with a silver wire seam and mounted with two beautifully chiseled silver carrying rings and chased silver locket and chape. Total length 38 inches. Very good condition. A very fine sword.
