Rare Pichangeti Knife, South India - 5974

The Pichangeti is one of the rarest knives of the Indian arsenal. It is usually associated with South of India and usually regarded as women knife. It has a short heavy single edge blade, 7 ½ inches long decorated along the spine, heavy steel bolsters and highly decorated silver handle and grips. The wood scabbard is also covered with silver pieces and the scabbard tip is up-curving in a very clear Arabic influence. A short heavy silver chain is attached to the scabbard locket. Very good condition with several small areas of pitting on the blade. An unusual find for the collector of Indian weaponry.
