This battle axe looks very much like Indian saddle axe, yet the loner hammer back side and the use of sting ray skin on the haft may suggest a Balkan Ottoman or East European origin. The heavy steel blade is 3 1/2 inches wide, 6 inches tall, finely decorated with gold koftgari work The haft is 27 inches long covered with sting ray skin and mounted with steel mounts also decorated en suite with the blade. Very good condition Minor losses to the gold decoration. A very interesting axe.
