Very Good 19 C. Dual Wootz Knives Set, India - 9586

Up for sale is this very interesting set of two knives, India, mid to late 19 C. The first knife is a kard shape blade, 6 inches long, forged from high contrast wootz steel. Steel bolsters and grip strap and ivory grips. The second knife is a karud shape 6 inches blade, with a T spine, also a wootz steel blade of lesser contrast. Steel bolsters and grip strap and bone grips. Wood scabbard with separate compartments for each knife covered with tooled black leather and mounted with a chased silver chape. Total length (in scabbard) 13 inches. Very good condition. Small pitted area on the karud blade. Minor dents to the silver tip. Minor losses to the leather. The fact that the two knives are not identical may suggest that one is a later replacement, but an old one.
