Up for sale is this very fine “PIHA KAHETTA”, the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). Like the old classical examples it has a single edged short heavy down curving fullered blade, 9 inches long, finely chiseled and inlaid with heavy silver and gold decoration. The grips are beautifully carved from ivory with good age patina, set with chiseled brass bolster and chased silver pommel cover. Total length is 13 inches. Very good condition. Minor losses to the silver inlay on the spine. One rivet in the grips is missing but the grips hold very tight. Very fine age patina on the ivory grips. Minor damage to the silver pommel cover. A very fine piece in good condition
