Fine, Early, Khanda / Patissa Sword with Wootz Blade - 9430


Up for sale is this fine Khanda sword, 17 C., with a 32 inches blade forged of very fine high contrast wootz (watered, Damascus) steel. The blade is widening to its maximum width of 2 inches just above the tip, which is rounded in a spatula shape. Swords with this form of blade is some time called Patissa. The blade is reinforced with long decorative steel strip on the spine. The basket shape handle is classical Indian, beautifully chiseled all around and ending with a 2 inches pommel spike. Total length 39 inches. Very good condition to age. The original grip binding is lightly damaged. A small crack and de lamination of the blade reinforcing strip. No scabbard. A fine rare sword.
