This is an early Indian axe, probably 18 C, from South India. It is mounted on a later 19 C. haft of the Bulowa style. The blade is very well forged with a 5 1/2 inches long edge and 4 1/2 inches wide mounted with a heavy socket on the wood haft. The blade is finely engraved with fishes images and geometrical patterns painted red. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. Minor damage to one of the blades tip. Minor losses to the red paint. A very unusual impressive item.
