This Barong sword is an early type. It was collected in Borneo in 1896 so it is actually an earlier one. The heavy long blade is 19 inches long and with a (rare) back edge 9 inches long. Grained wood handle with a finely carved pommel and a big brass collar. The scabbard is rather simple, light wood, partially damaged. It is however marked with and old label BORNEO KNIFE and with a black ink: Brun(?) Borneo 1896 (probably Brunei). Total length 28 inches. Good condition to age. The scabbard top is partially damaged. The pommel carving was broken and re glued. A nice early rare shape Barong.
