Very Fine Indian Kattar Dagger 19C. - 9151
This very fine Kattar push dagger is Indian early 19 C. Fine wootz (Damascus) heavy blade 8 inches long, with a central rib and armor piercing thickened tip. The steel handle is rather wide, more than 3 inches and will easily fit a big palm. It is finely inlaid with gold koftgari work all around. The steel scabbard fittings are decorated in the same style and workmanship. Total length 16 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Some losses to the gold koftgari work. The scabbard wood is a replacement but the steel fittings are original and where born together with the dagger. The space seen between the locket and the blade was originally covered with a thick leather strip which is now missing. A very fine piece. |
