Very Good Kattara Sword from Oman - 8877
Sword from Oman also known as Kattara. This type of sword, which is very similar to the older Islamic swords from the 11th 12th centuries, was popular in the Gulf countries during the 18th and the 19th Centuries. It has a very long 32 inches, straight and double edge blade with a 8 inches central shallow fuller and a spatula shaped tip. The blade is very similar to many trade blades common to the Middle East and to East Africa for a variety of swords and it is marked with two styled lunar shaped faces on both sides of the blade. Hilt is wood, covered with leather and silver strips and the pommel is a heavy square steel piece used as a counter weight to the very well balanced long blade. The scabbard is wood, covered with leather stitched in the spiral stitching technique (Partially damaged), beautifully engraved silver locket and chape and two silver rings with original fabric baldric belt. Total length is 42 inches. Very good condition. Blade blackened with small pitted spots. Silver parts partially dented. Grip binding is restored. |
