Fine Indo-Persian Jambiya / Khanjar Dagger with Wootz - 8873

This mid 19 C. dagger shows an interesting mix of a Persian blade and Indian style handle and scabbard. This fine Wootz (Damascus , watered steel) is curved, double edged, 11 1/2 inches long with a central rib. The top part of the blade is finely chiseled in a classical Qajar style scenes of a tiger (or a lion ??) attacking an antelope. The handle is whole steel, entirely decorated with gold koftgari work. The wood scabbard is covered with two colors old veklvet and set with a pierced silver chape. Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. Light losses to the gold inlay work. The fabric seam trim and the scabbard tip are recent.
