Arab Jambiya Dagger from India, Hippopotamus Hilt - 5874

A very good small Jambiya dagger from INDIA, with a very strong Arab influence. Probably made an Arab residing in India or may be made in India as a special order for a prominent Arab person in Arabia. The Indian attribution comes from the very rare and unusual use of Hippopotamus tusk for the grip. The Hipo tusk is identified by the very thin line of black dots running on both side of the hilt. The blade is short, 6 inches long, curve and double edged with a pronounced central rib. The scabbard is wood covered with dark red velvet. Very good plus condition. The colored thread used to decorate the scabbard is missing.
