Fine Turkish Shamshir Sword with Wootz Blade - 8843


This fine sword is a classical Turkish Shamshir, late 18 or early 19 C. , with deeply curved, well made blade forged from fine Persian Wootz (Damascus steel) with clear high contrast pattern. The blade is decorated with fine gold koftgari work. The grips with the bulbous pommel are made from rhino horn, with a silver grip strap and silver cross guard. Blade 32 inches. Total length 38 inches. Very good condition. Minor blackened and shallow pitted spots as can be expected in this age of blade. Small repair on one of the grips. The grip strap and the cross guard are restored. No scabbard.
