Very Good Indian Shamshir with Wootz Blade - 8808


Up for sale is this Shamshir sword, of Indian origin, late 18 or early 19 C. Curved blade 30 1/2 inches with 8 inches back edge and 2 inches ricasso. The blade is welded from two parts in the style known as Scarf Welding, a technique common to Indian blades. The blade is forged from good Indian wootz (Crystalline), with traces of gold koftgari work at the base. Steel cross guard and grip strap with traces of decorative etching. Black horn grips and steel pommel cap. Total length 32 inches. Very good condition. The pommel cap and horn grips are restored. The Indian attribution comes from the ricasso and the back edge on the blade.
