This presentation Dao sword is coming from Assam, North east India. The machete style blade is 13 inches long. The handle is horn mounted with white metal pommel cover and collar. The heavy leather scabbard is covered with chased silver mounts, decorated with colored stones (Glass ??) . A presentation plaque at the center of the scabbard is inscribed: PRESENTED TO COL RND FRIER. M. C. BY SUB. MAJOR D.N. ANGAMI JCOS & ORS OF THE ASSAM REGIMENT CENTRE. Total length 19 inches. Very good condition. The Assam regiment was established in 1941. This item is probably from the second half of the 20 C.
