Short Yataghan Knife from North Africa - 8721
This rare form of Yataghan, with the lobed pommel is usually identified as North African, probably Algeria. In addition, most of these Yataghans will come with rhino horn hilt grips, as is the case here. This is a short specimen, more of a long knife than a sword, but with all typical features: Down curving blade, 14 inches long marked with a maker stamp. Rhino horn grips with silver grip strap and bolsters. Scabbard covered with fabric at its central part and mounted with big locket and chape. Total length 20 inches. Very good condition. Minor chips on the horn grips, with a small piece of the pommel lobe missing. Lightly stained scabbard cover. |
