Good Barong Sword with Long Damascus Blade - 5851
The Barongs heavy leaf shaped blades are known to have superior cutting abilities. This one is a good old Moro Barong, with a pattern welded (Damascus) blade, 18 inches long, longer than the usual 14 inches blades. The hilt is carved from a beautiful grained wood in a very classical form, bound to the blade tang with a long gilded and chased silver collar. The scabbard is wood bound with Rattan strips, with a mosaic of stained pieces of Mother of Pearl and Aluminum strips on the front face, and brown yellow shell on the rear face of the scabbard mouth. Very good condition. Good blade with few forging flaws and minor pitted spots. Old crack to the hilt wood and part of the silver gilding is worn. The blade and hilt are old, probably mid 19 C. The scabbard is later, mid 20th C. or later, but specially made to house this old blade. Altogether a very impressive piece at a very reasonable price.
