One of the swords made for the Ethiopian army, equipped with a Wilkinson made blade, marked and etched in Amharic. This sword type is known as Gurade ( Saber). Blade length 30 ½ inches, marked by etching with the Wilkinson star and with Amharic inscription and floral design, Handle is carved from a massive piece of honey colored, translucent rhino horn with a central silver band and a beautiful brass pommel cap. Total length 35 inches. Very good condition. Minor chips on the handle. He silver band on the handle may indicate a crack or a breakage of the horn but nothing is evident from the outside. . No scabbard. A fine sword.
