Sikin, Ache Sword from Sumatra with Ivory Scabbard Mouth - 8292
A Sikin, one of the many variations of the Klewang, the Indonesian machete like sword. This one is Acheen from Sumatra, mid 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 21 ½ inches long with a 13 ½ inches long fuller just below the spine. It is forged from pattern welded and folded steel. The steel bolster is forged in a polygonal shape. And inlaid (real inlay) with gold. The hilt is horn with typical forked pommel and copper collar. The horn is beautifully carved with geometrical design. The scabbard is made of light color hardwood beautifully engraved in a typical pattern. The scabbard mouth is carved from a massive Ivory piece. A white metal band is securing the connection of the ivory to the wood. Total length is 28 inches. Good condition. Few cracks on the scabbard and repairs on its top side. A good complete sword. |
