This Yataghan sword exhibit a finest steel blade forged in the pattern known as Turkish ribbon: Several strips of Twisted Star steel forge welded together. Blade 19 ½ inches with silver inlay decoration and inscription. Ribbed ivory hilt with silver grip straps and bolsters. Wood scabbard with silver locket and chape chased in the same style as the hilt silver parts and a green stone (glass ??) at the tip. Total length 26 ½ inches. Very fine condition. All silver parts are of low silver content. It should be mentioned here that the silver decoration are similar to those found on weapons from North Africa but we think it is west Turkey / Balkan piece. Rarely one see such a complete item.
