This sword is a matter of a long standing dispute regarding its origin. it was attributed to Morocco, East Africa, Ethiopia and other African regions. It is definitely of African origin, most probably East Africa, and Zanzibar being its place of manufacturing is very probable. This specimen has a nicely fullered 22 inches blade with acute tip. I shaped handle, horn grips with brass extended brass mounted pommel and cross guard. Wood scabbard covered with leather and with a big engraved brass chape. Total length28 ½ inches. Good condition. Age blackened blade. Some losses to the leather cover of the scabbard. Lightly damaged and tin soldered repairs to the brass tip. A rare ethnographic and authentic item. |
