This type of knife / dagger is called “PIHA KAHETTA”, and it is the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). It always has a single edged short heavy down curving blade, and the hilt is elaborately decorated in various techniques of decorative arts. This specific example has a thick blade 7 inches long, wide and of unusual proportions. The blade is inlaid with silver decoration. The bolster are steel / brass and the grips are beautifully carved from ivory. Total length is 11 ˝ inches. Very good condition.
