Rare Georgian / Caucasian Sword, Early 19 C. - 7799


Up for sale is this rare Georgian sword, from the first quarter of the 19 C. This sword is a part of a small collection purchased in Jerusalem in 1918 and was in private hands in the U.S.A since than. Straight single edge blade 31 inches long with three fullers. A styled, crude version of the running wolf, the famous mark of high quality blades from Passau and Solingen in the 15 and 16 C., is engraved here on the blade, as a mark of quality. Wood grip covered with the original black leather. Steel cross guard beautifully inlaid with gold with typical Georgian lion in the center. The scabbard tip is also decorated with a similar design. Total length 36 inches. Good condition. Blackened areas on the blade and pitted tip. The pommel is missing. The scabbard is unfortunately missing and only the original steel tip with some remains of the scabbard wood survived. A fine Rare piece, sought after by collectors.
