Very Good Karud Dagger with Wootz Blade - 7754
A very fine KARUD, (the common name for a Pesh-Kabz with straight blade), probably late 18 or early 19 C., North India origin. A very fine wootz blade 13 ½ inches long with acute point, T spine and reinforced edge. The grips are elephant ivory with a good age patina. The blade base, grip strap and bolsters are finely decorated with gold koftgari work. The scabbard is wood covered with old red fabric and mounted with gold washed locket. Total length19 inches. Very good condition. Only minor pitted spots on the edge and a small repaired chip on the left ivory grip. The many hairline cracks on the grips are normal age cracks on ivory of this age and the grips are very solid. A high quality piece. All parts are original. |
