A Kard knife, probably early 19 Century from North India. The blade is forged out of fine Indian (Crystalline) Wootz. Steel. It is 11 inches long and single edge with a gold and silver koftgary decoration at its base and on the grip strap. The grips are ivory riveted to the blade tang. The scabbard is wood with copper fittings and green velvet cover ( recent) Total length 16 inches. Very good condition. Good age patina on the ivory grips. About 40% of the koftgary decoration on the blade is erased. The scabbard tip is restored
