Obsidian Spear from Admiralty Islands - 7550
The people of the Admiralty islands N.E of New Guinea uses Obsidian for their blades. From there come this very rare double head spear. The two obsidian blades, of triangular cross section (unfortunately one is broken) are about 8 inches long, with the lower 3 inches are bound with intricate winding of fibers to the decorative head. The binding are painted in a geometrical pattern in ocher, black and white colors. The total head length is 20 ½ inches and the total length with the wood haft is 63 inches. Good condition. |
