Rare Heavy Sword South (?) India - 5755

A very rare and unusual Indian Sword, probably late 18 C. from South India. The slightly curved blade is 26 inches long multi fullered and with an 8 ½ inches back edge. The tip is cut in a triangular shape in the style of the well-known Khanda blade tip. A massive heavy blade, widening to almost two inches toward the tip. The handle is bronze with down curving quillons. The pommel as well as the quillons and the D guard tips are shaped in a monsters heads. The pommel monster head is striking in the quality and details. Very good sword in a good plus condition. The blade is unsharpened or otherwise cleaned and maintain a good patina with very minor pitted spots. A prized addition to any collection of Indian arms and armor.
