A very Nice 1800s Ankus Elephant Goad - 7216

This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always shown in Museum and private collection in connection to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one is a very early speciman, late 18 C. or earlier. Good quality. Heavy spiral shape side blade 5 ½ inches long, forged in one piece. 2 ½ steel spike. Wood haft, 15 inches long, partially covered with brass bands. Very good condition. Nice age patina on all steel parts. Unusual and original piece and a very interesting addition to any Indian art / edged weapon collection
