Indonesian Pedang Sword, Very Rare Form - 7235

This form of sword from Sumatra, Indonesia is known as Pedang I. It has a clear influence from the Indian subcontinent and usually employs a foreign blade, as most probably the case here: An Indian made pattern welded (Damascus) and fullered blade, 32 inches long with a short back edge. Steel basket hilt with down pointing langets and a pommel spike. All very nicely engraved. Total length 37 ½ inches. For similar swords see A.G. Van Zonneveld, Traditional Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago, Page 101. Good condition. Minor repaired cracks on the hilt basket. No scabbard.
