Up for sale is this very fine example of a Balkan Yataghan sword. Typical down curving blade, 21 ½ inches long, inlaid with silver (true inlay) of inscriptions in Arabic letters on both sides, signed and dated 1206 in the Islamic calendar. This refers to 1791 in the Gregorian calendar. The handle is composed of two massive grips slabs carved from elephant ivory with the classical eared pommel. . The bolster and grip strap are made from chased silver. The scabbard is entirely covered with brass, finely engraved on its entire front face. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition . A repair to the right grip with a bone piece. Probably a late repair bur well done.
