Very Rare Hand Shield, Bengal, India - 6993

This is a very rare shield from Bengal, India used by the Sentali people residing in the area. In contrary to many hand shields, this shield has its concave side facing out. One of the photos below shows an old photo of a group of Sentali people holding similar shields. The steel disk is 11 ½ inches in diameter mounted with steel dome in the center and decorated with 10 smaller ribed steel domes. The two handles one in a blade and one in a ring shape are attached to the steel disk with steel rivets. Total length tip to tip 26 inches. This is a very unusual authentic piece dated to the early 20 C. in a good condition.
