19 C. Indo-Arab Gilded Jambiya Dagger - 7012

This Jambiya dagger is a fine example of Daggers made for wealthy Arabs residing in India. It is a fantastic mix of Arab and Indian styles of weaponry and decoration. The shape is of a classical Arab style where as the materials and decoration is classical 19C. Indian. The curved double edge blade is 6 inches long with a central rib. The handle and scabbard are made from chased copper with intricate floral design and it is heavily gilded. Very good condition. Minor blackening patches on the blade and the gilding is slightly worn in very few spots. A very similar dagger is shown in: the article: The sword of Islam in the magazine “Arts of Asia” May-June 1979.
