Very Rare Hand Shield, Bengal, India - 6992

This is a very rare shield from Bengal, India used by the Sentali people residing in the area. In contrary to many hand shields, this shield has its concave side facing out. One of the photos below shows an old photo of a group of Sentali people holding similar shields. The steel disk is 10 inches in diameter mounted with steel/brass dome in the center and decorated with 10 smaller steel/brass domes and engraved brass circles. The two handles one in a blade and one in a ring shape are attached to the steel disk with steel rivets. This is a very unusual authentic piece dated to the late 19 C. in a good condition. The ring shaped handle is newly restored.
