Persian Old Quadara Sword - 6826


There are a lot of debates regarding the exact name of this type of sword. The Persian call it QAMA, In the Caucasus and Central Asia it is known as QUADARA. The same names also applies to other - similar but not exactly the same - weapon. It looks like a long. Massive single edge Kindjal. It origin is most probably Persian. It comes in various sizes, up to 30 inches, and in a variety of quality and materials. This specific example has a single edge up curving blade, 23 inches long. It has four fullers on both sides. The front side has an Arabic inscription and a six point star and a crescent marks stamped on it. The grips are of black horn, riveted to the blade tang with steel rivets and rivet disks made from old silver Persian coins, some dated to 1295 (1878 in the Gregorian Calendar). The exposed edges of the tang are also covered with chased silver strip. The scabbard is wood covered with brown leather (recent) and mounted with a chased silver locket showing the Persian Lion on one side and birds on the other. The silver tip is much later to the rest. The ring attachment is engraved steel. Total length is 32 plus inches. Very good condition. Few blackened spots on the blade and a small chips from the grip horn.
