Piha Kahetta Dagger / Knife from Sri Lanka - 9900
This type of knife / dagger is called “PIHA KAHETTA”, and it is the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). It always has a single edged short heavy down curving blade, and the hilt is elaborately decorated in various techniques of decorative arts. This specific example has a thick blade 6 1/4 inches long, but only about 5 inches of the blade length has an edge. The bolster itself is brass, chiseled in a beautiful design. The grips are made from hany color ivory, engraved and set with chased silver mounts. Wood scabbard with silver locket. The scabbard maybe of later time. Total length is 12 ¼. The condition is very good. The blade shows a very nice daerk and shining age patina but no pitting. This is a VERY RARE piece in good condition and a very interesting addition to any collection. |
