19C. Wootz (Damascus) Karud Knife / Dagger, Afghanistan - 6821


This Knife / dagger is a Karud , the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Afghanistan, Persia and several Central Asian countries. The blade is wootz (Damascus steel), 11 inches long, heavy, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are Ivory sectors and the grip strap and bolsters are steel. The scabbard is brass , beautifully engraved with swept up tip connected to the scabbard mouth with a brass chain. Very good condition. Small areas of forging flaws on the blade and minor hairthin cracks to the ivory grips.
